STILL LIFE WITH FEZ - 1999
So I learned a valuable lesson today when I was bidding online at a recent Lyon & Turnbull auction. I've become so used to the eBay way of doing things and have fallen out of the habit - well, to be honest, I've never really got into the habit - of bidding online at an auction house. This beautiful piece above was available for sale. I loved looking at it at the private view and started sizing it up for display when I got home. Days were spent planning and envisioning, but when the moment came, I put in my max bid, thought I'd won, and then realised only later that somebody had pipped me to the post. It's obvious when you think about it that it's the first person to bid who wins, but in the heat of the moment, I didn't see the little notification which said I had been outbid, so I was happily basking in being the highest bidder until the lot closed and I realised I'd missed it. Oh well. Lesson learned, and I'll never make that mistake again. Some other pieces I quite liked are below. But this truly was the one that got away.

My bestie from high school, Pheebs, on her wedding day, to the lovely James, at Prestonfield House. Glorious.
